Dayvo, that's terrible. As someone else with deep personal connections to Norway, I've been thinking about little else since this morning when I found out about the attacks.

And I hope very much that your girlfriend's son will recover.

I had no sooner read that Norway is a small country, and this tragedy would strike particularly hard, when I read your post. The internet brings us together, but it also brings loss and hurt closer. I hope your gf's son makes a full recovery.

Dayvo, I thought about you as soon as I read the news - I don't know of that many people that live in Oslo.

I hope your girlfriend's son comes through it all. Did this chap's brother say anything about his former boss? Was he always a bit odd?

Such a tragedy.

Be aware that this is a dangerous route to take........

This is at the moment a tragic story, and the victims are exactly that. However as they go through this there will be questions such as "were there any warning signs?"

There is often a feeling of "Did I miss something, If I had noticed -could I have prevented it?"

At the present time, what is needed for the victims (and their families) is understanding and support

My thoughts are with you

It's hard to know what to say to someone directly effected by such a horrific thing. I hope that you find the strength to help your girlfriend and her family to get through this. If well intended thoughts help, then the Norwegians have got a worldful of them on their side.

Thinking of you Dayvo, and your family, and indeed of the many Norwegians affected by this tragedy. Keep strong.

Been lucky to visit Norway twice, and found it a place of beauty and serenity, completely at odds with these happenings.

Dayvo, I'm so sorry mate. I wish your GF's son all the best. From a UK persepctive, it is still difficult to come to terms with something like this happening in Norway, so cannot imagine the shock that must be felt over with you and your family/colleagues.

Thoughts with you.

just passin' through
We attended a public memorial service in the city this evening http://www.vg.no/nyheter/innenriks/artikkel.php?artid=10080775 with an estimated 150,000 people in attendance. Most people were holding a rose and the feeling of support, empathy, sadness and solidarity was incredible.

It was extremely moving with hundreds of people crying openly and uncontrollably.

There were speeches by the crown prince, the mayor of Oslo and the prime minister, who received a massive cheer (and whose actions and words have been spectacularly excellent since the double tragedy on Friday.

Afterwards, we went to the hospital to visit Eivind (my first time to actually see him) who is making steady progress but has a very long way to go to full fitness.

The amazing thing is that he is alive! He was only 20-30 metres away from the car when it exploded (which was estimated to be about 600 kg and caused a massive crater in the ground). Several bodies were lying close to him and these people had died immediately.

A passer-by rushed to him almost immediately after the explosion and said (in translation) 'Fukking' hell, what the fukk do I do now?'

Eivind told him to take his (Eivind's) clothes out of his holdall and use them as a tourniquet (he was later a bit upset that his Abercrombie & Fitch clothes were ruined) but this probably saved his life as he was spouting blood from 2-3 big wounds.

The doctor later asked him if he had any First Aid knowledge and he replied 'Only from watching war and action films'!

Good on ya, Eivind, come on, mate!

Unfortunately my workmate (whose girlfriend was killed in the blast) is having a really rough time, and I'm not sure he can cope!
