"overtook in the space between kerb and traffic " and no-one's made a joke about undertakers yet!?!

For what it's worth, once I'd realised it was a hearse up ahead, I'd have slotted back into the queue.

I'd wait. I've heard of people at the back of processions getting lost because a car had cut into the line and they didn't know where they were going, so I wouldn't want to get in there then hold them up at the lights or something.

And if it was a horse drawn one you wouldn't want to come up close on its side.

I think I would wait ... I had to go past one waiting at the side of the road and even then I felt I couldn't go past at any kind of speed. Its just a moment of my life.

That happened to me and my brothers about 20 years ago. Was at my Granddad's funeral in Leicester. We set off following the hearse but lost it on a roundabout. It shot off at about 40 miles an hour and we missed the exit it took. We arrived at the crem. just as everyone else was coming out. We were the only non locals and didn't know where we were going. At that point I still lived in Yorkshire and had only visited Leicester 3 or 4 times.

Oh the irony.............. some one killed in a road accident because they were speeding has a funeral procession moving at a snail's pace  . Maybe their coffin should instead be lashed to the roof of a WRC rally car .........................
