Does Miss Goodbody have any preference on this question.

With reference to the OP's question about car tyres

I believe that size is important

Never squeeze anything larger than you are comfortable with handling

I am sur Ms Goodbody had squeezed many sizes and can give advice on the optimum girth

As to the bike, yes every time. Sometimes even when I am not riding. ^_^

It's the first thing I do when I go downstairs on a workday morning - get the Brompton out of the cupboard and check the tyres. If there's a puncture, it's back upstairs to get changed and I'm walking to the train station...

So, 2 extra squeezes, 2 tyres (assuming you're not on a unicycle) 4 squeezes per ride extra. Let's say you ride 5 days a week and have done so for 10 years, that's 10400 superfluous squeezes each taking 1/2 second which equates to 1 hour, 26 minutes and 40 seconds of your life you've wasted unnecessarily squeezing bicycle tyres.
And if he's a tricyclist?

The Big Squeeze is quite simply fetishism ....

I weened myself off the Big Squeeze with the aid of a track pump & now I only align the brand names on the sidewalls to rotate at exactly the same point before I set off.

It's a miracle.
