Phil Vickery, the ex rugby international has a tattoo which translates to "I'll fight you to the death". I find that a bit disturbing. Even more disturbing is that he's a qualified cattle inseminator.xx(

"The son of a dairy farmer, Vickery was born to Cornish parents in Barnstaple, Devon, England and says he is proud to be a Cornishman and an Englishman.[2] Educated at Budehaven School, his interest in sport developed as a youngster, and by age 12 he started playing rugby. By the age of 16 he gained his first National Representative honour, being picked for the England Schools U16s group.

Vickery left school age 16 and worked as a herdsman on his parents' farm. He remains a qualified cattle inseminator.[3]"

Vickery has an Oriental tattoo on his left shoulder which roughly translates to "I'll fight you to the death", and a bulldog tattoo on his right.

I have three and as soon as I can think what a fourth should be (and I can get the money together) I'll have another. That's all part of the enjoyment; the months or years of mulling ideas over. And the creative process with the artist as they translate your idea into something do-able. Then the inking itself is invigorating.

Anyone wavering about the act - go for it! But only when you know that you have a design you can live with forever.

The best one I ever saw was in a pub in Edinburgh about 30 years ago. Tattoed on a man's forehead was this -

It was really, really hard not to stare or snigger.

I have a fair few, first one when I was 17, (long since covered up), and last one when I was about 32, so I haven't been under the needle for about 13 years, but I'm actually planning a full sleeve for my right arm, just waiting for an appointment to get the ball rolling.

They always ask every time you donate. It's one of the things you can't give blood for 6 months after doing.

It used to be 12 months but now I believe it's only 4.

No tattoos for me yet. Stuck in a never-ending cycle of blood doning, so don't feel I ever can get one.

I used to be a regular donor, 50+ pints so far despite multiple tats, but round here I've given up donating as their appointment system is pants, and last time I went they even said because I'm O RH+ they weren't fussed about it as it's too common!
