painting an old garage floor

I know cleaning it thoroughly & degreasing it is the correct thing to do. I just have lots of time at the house when I visit. swept a few sections & experimented with some paint

have tried to clean spot but it didn't change. dunno what my late Father may have spilled here or how long ago that happened

I pulled up some small peices duct tape that he had used to hold cardboard in place. didn't remove the glue residue, just painted over it

the coverage looks very good. I'll check it in 2 weeks & reevaluate the tests. even if it's not perfect it's gonna be a lot better. the house & this garage floor is 59 years old. if I wind up doing the whole floor it's gonna be in sections. will have to move things around. I'll have to empty those shelves to move them

there are a cpl rough patches like this. no idea what may have caused it. easy enough to smooth over but I'm just not gonna do it. painted right over it

need to figure what is going on with this ice melt & figure out how to dispose of it. it may be decades old

I did similar with our garage floor and walls; sweep, mop and paint. That lasted five years of use as my workshop before I was sufficiently bored to give the floor another coat.

The main thing is that the dust is kept down.

We paint the works floors constantly and tbh floor paint is pretty forgiving. Large patches of loose concrete we tend to scrape out and refill using self levelling compound. We use big brushes to cut in and then rollers to do the bulk. 1st time do a light coat then finish with a 2nd coat to cover any missed bits. I did my lads garage not long ago with some free stuff from work that wasn't the correct colour. He's got enough left to do it again. Ideally degrease any really oily bits and try and dry wet areas before painting. Give it plenty of drying time. Stuff we use drys overnight to walk on but rockhard in 24hrs for FLT,s to go on
