Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
my bad, sorry. gave myself heat exhaustion & that wrecked me. glad I recovered at all & got back to my own home 200 miles away. I’m going back soon

I'm glad to hear you're recovered. Now, about that floor ... ;)

maybe yours is dusty because it's new? have you tried cleaning it? maybe there's a dry dusty layer that developed after it dried & it just needs to be washed?

there are cement products for resurfacing, to make it smooth, if you don't like the surface

It's not new, it's about 20 years old. The dust just keeps coming!

I once painted a garage floor and the paint tin advised me to wet the concrete down about 24hrs beforehand to stop the paint sinking into the concrete and being a bugger to spread.

You can get concrete sealers to stop the dust or just paint it. Ideally paint in one hit as it will show when you stop and start. Painted enough factory / workshop floors to find that one out.

beat by the 98F heat yesterday after working outside, so 7am, painted the nasty back corner. fun vacation

it was pretty gross but no dead animals, yay

followed the advice of wetting prior to painting so that the paint would go further? just a cpl wet sponges. there were some weird wet spots, so wiping the area after sweeping it, was a good 1-2 punch. could have even used more water because that old concrete soaked it right up

dunno what may have spilled back there, probably decades ago. low visibility area, so not too worried. once the shelf goes back, it will be hidden until the new owners make their own storage solutions

going up an inch or two on the side walls might be nice but, nope, not gonna do it

I'll move the shelves back in a week or two. should will be dry & hard

should I preserve a section for posterity? will our history be erased? is it art?

what is gone, lost?

broke down & broke out the roller. of course Dad had all the equipment. all I had to do was buy more paint

had them mix the new paint to match the old. I'll give it a week to dry more before judging. but I'm guessing that after the coating is complete, I'll go back & do some roller blending

it's been a while since the 3rd of May 2025

Looking good Rocky. I always think a well turned out car hole (that's what we call them in the UK) says a lot about a man.

I painted my garage out in International Garage floor paint and it lasts well - depending on the type of use it gets of course. After we had a house extension that wrecked it (the garage was used as a building materials store for the duration) I redid it and then covered it in those interlocking foam tiles. It makes it comfier and warmer in there but keeping them flat is a pain with expansion etc.

I've also painted out rough concrete floors in workshops and again they last well - biggest issue is parking cars for any longer period of time. The tyre lifts the paint when it gets moved. Parking on rollers or mats etc will stop this, but its a pain.

Very tidy!
We ended up carpeting ours 🤪
Long story short: new sun room with wet UFH, done just before daughters 18th…too soon to tile, so I picked up a bunch of “cheap” carpet tiles so she could have a big party!

Afterwards, decided to try carpeting the garage 🤷‍♂️
Much warmer.
We don’t tend to do proper messy work in there, plus if there were any issues, I could lift and replace (haven’t had to yet, 8+ years on).
Bought more cheap black ones to make a run for the fun car tyres 😂

Clearly NOT for everyone (or even perhaps most people), but worked well for us 💪

My car hole is detached and hence unheated, and im avoiding carpet as it can encourage damp. I my try some of those interlocking floor tiles next year.

Makes sense: if we didn't have the party reason to get a load of tiles, I'd have perhaps used the same!
Ours is unheated, but attached (a room above), & pretty modern - we don't have any damp issues.
