painting an old garage floor

Maybe there's a terminology difference but isn't your floor the same apart from the texture. My floor is concrete, i.e cement, sand, gravel; mixed

yes of course, ours is concrete

notes to self: had grand plans to do more, but was occupied elsewhere. even after thorough drying I can see where the sections meet. gonna try to do larger sections to keep that to a minimum. don't want to do a 2nd coat. dunno if "blending" is worth the effort

I'm rather disappointed. I'm really enjoying this thread. I want more floor coverage!

my bad, sorry. gave myself heat exhaustion & that wrecked me. glad I recovered at all & got back to my own home 200 miles away. I’m going back soon

I'm glad to hear you're recovered. Now, about that floor ...

maybe yours is dusty because it's new? have you tried cleaning it? maybe there's a dry dusty layer that developed after it dried & it just needs to be washed?

there are cement products for resurfacing, to make it smooth, if you don't like the surface

It's not new, it's about 20 years old. The dust just keeps coming!

I once painted a garage floor and the paint tin advised me to wet the concrete down about 24hrs beforehand to stop the paint sinking into the concrete and being a bugger to spread.

You can get concrete sealers to stop the dust or just paint it. Ideally paint in one hit as it will show when you stop and start. Painted enough factory / workshop floors to find that one out.

beat by the 98F heat yesterday after working outside, so 7am, painted the nasty back corner. fun vacation

it was pretty gross but no dead animals, yay

followed the advice of wetting prior to painting so that the paint would go further? just a cpl wet sponges. there were some weird wet spots, so wiping the area after sweeping it, was a good 1-2 punch. could have even used more water because that old concrete soaked it right up

dunno what may have spilled back there, probably decades ago. low visibility area, so not too worried. once the shelf goes back, it will be hidden until the new owners make their own storage solutions

going up an inch or two on the side walls might be nice but, nope, not gonna do it

I'll move the shelves back in a week or two. should will be dry & hard
