Have any other forum members had experience of re-finishing or painting frames,
Whilst I am not averse to doing it myself, the duarability of aerosol sprays seem to be questionable.
Any experiences or recommendations regarding specialist firms, would be very helpful

Don't do it yourself. Google powder coating on this forum or elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of powder coating. I use a compressor & gun, usually 2 pack paint.
Here's one painted in 2 pack.

I use Bettablast in Newcastle and they are great. Good choice of colours and even 2 or 3 stage coating to add flecks and metallic sheens. To be honest paint or powder coating, it's all in the preparation and not rushing.

You can also get clear powder or nylon coat, multi colours, metallic, graphics, pretty much anything you can do with paint short of airbrushing naked chicks riding dragons.

I use good brushes, sand after each coat really well, then do a couple of coats of clearcoat. Or I break out the compressor and paint gun. Powder coating is only as good as your provider, just like smart phones.

Tell me how do you lay a metallic or mica out with a brush. As somebody who taught spraying for a few years I can certainly tell the difference between a brush painted finish and a spray finish.

If i were doing metallics, I'd use the compressor and gun, personally. I don't think the OP was wondering whether you could tell the difference between methods, rather what a good course other than aerosols would be. I believe they all have their their attributes and shortcomings.
