There's a dude I work with who is pushing 50 and has created a spreadsheet to monitor the progress of his collection.
I slag him off about it, pointing out that he's a grown man and his kids think he's a freak, but secretly I think his lack of farks given is pretty awesome.
I suspect his attitude stems from being the only white dude in the world called Carlton.
As a lad I collected panini stickers and at my mums house there are still the well thumbed books with 2-3 stickers missing to complete the whole album.
There was a form in the Back where you could send away for the missing stickers but my parents never played along for some reason.
Come Korea Japan 2002, Thomas was 7 years old. I'm not sure if it was his album or mine.... But it's complete! The 33 yo little kid was over the moon!
I remember collecting, never finished an album to completion though, probably always 4 or 5 stickers short. I remember the "Europa 80" album as my favourite, as a 10 year old I was seduced by it's exoticness and mystery of far away countries which I'd barely heard of. I notice that a complete Europa 80 album can go for £200-£300 on ebay! Also I remember the spontaneous but highly structured and organised economic system that developed with swapping and bartering stickers in the playground. Happy days!
