Weird. I am watching Seb Coe giving his speech on the TV whilst I can clearly hear loads of fireworks going off outside. Either the TV feed is delayed significantly from the live event or someone else has decided to let off a serious amounts of fireworks in east London. From what I hear I think we have got some good fireworks on the way!
As already mentioned, there were other fireworks on the Thames and could be seen in the distance from DLR platform 4. It would have been those you heard, don't worry, I got caught out by the noise of them at first too. Also there was a small burst of firewoks from the stadium at 10ish, but the main fireworks for closing ceremony proper were at about 10.40.
I know all of this because I was there in an attempt to get some pictures of them. After discovering that there were buildings EVERYWHERE and hence no clear view at all, and that the high rise flats with the decent views seemed to be infested by the BBC and the likes, complete with security at the door

, I did the only thing I could, and took my pictures from the DLR, which provided a clear view...... Well, except for the overhead catenary in the way from the main lines this is.*
Approaching Stratford from Bow Church, the train stops for a minute or so before going into Stratford Station.... Right in front of the Stadium. I simply went back and forwards between the two stations waiting for it to happen, and I got my timing right!

(although I missed the beginning of the pyrotechnics in question).
Annoyingly, they had closed the station between Stratford and Bow Church which would have given a great view.
As it was, I had to stand on the seats** and stick my camera out of the hopper windows.
* - Really there genuinely were no clear views anywhere. Obviously we mere plebs were not meant to actually see it!
** - I don't like people putting their feet on the seats, so it certainly was a one off for me, and I brushed the seat down afterwards
