Just spotted that the 700th episode of 'Sky At Night' is being shown this Sunday night at 11.25pm, straight after 'Overcast'.
Total respect to Patrick Moore.

He's survived duck egg food poisoning and a few other things but he's still around. A very influential presenter who has survived some of the ageist forces in the beeb.

Yep he's still around. Very frail now, and more or less housebound. But he still welcomes visitors - not too many at a time! And he has a team of excellent carers - keen astronomers themselves of course!

I saw an ad in the national press, once, placed by Patrick Moore

It seems a young chap (and his parents) had contacted Patrick, and asked if they could come and meet the great man, and look at his telescopes etc. He said "yes", and a date and time were agreed.

However, due to an oversight, Patrick was away on the day, and the lad missed his opportunity. Patrick, when he discovered his mistake, (and not having contact details for the boy) put ads in the national press asking for the boy's parents to get in touch with him, to re-arrange the visit.

Patrick is one of those 'old school English eccentric gentlemen' which seem more precious as time passes. He may have a few dodgy views on climate change but he is a rare communicator.

Like David Attenborourgh, his authenticity shines through..

The man's a legend - so few people like him left on tv.

Bumped into him at Gatwick once as I came out of the toilet. He was very rotund and wearing a purple suit and his monocle.

I attended a talk he gave with some of his slides. Wondrous indeed.
