Paying someone to do your ironing

Yep all the time. Sometimes we get our cleaner to do it or sometimes a local company which collects and returns.

Last time I needed a new iron, i paid about £15. I was amazed to see at Argos you can pay up to nearly £300 for an iron. I wonder if this is the sort of monster professional ironers use

£20 a basket sounds quite a lot but, a basket can hold a lot so probably a fair price. Interesting that people pay a cost per garment too. I shall look further in to that and see what other ironing services use. I know that they are out there, in the country, so some must post their prices on the web.

Just consulted the missus and her take is that the effort to iron a basketfull largely depends on what is in it, with shirts being the most time consuming. I can't itemise what was in a basket, but is was quite a lot of shirts - she still did some of the less time consuming stuff I think. Sometimes the basket was fuller than other times, but we always paid the same and both parties were happy with that on the basis of swings, roundabouts and mutual trust.

I used to have a neighbour who ironed my shirts for 50p each. Nowadays luckily Mrs Gti irons my five shirts a week.

My Dad has his next door neighbour's daughter come round every two weeks to do his ironing and I sneak my work shirts into the pile as well .

I do my own ironing, as after 25 years in the military I can't trust anyone else to do it to the required standard.

It's definitely worth looking into though. Go for it!

I probably wouldn't pay someone else to wash or iron clothes, but we used to get our bed linen done at a professional laundry service - it's not that I have a problem with cleaning or ironing, it's just that they do a much better job with sheets, thanks to their large pressing machines. Bit of an expensive luxury though, which is why we no longer use them.
