That poor man, RIP David.

As for Moat, I only hope he's rotting in hell.

While we don't know the circumstances of his death, i do know that coping with blindness can be emotionally extremely hard on the person concerned.
My dad's blind, lost his sight at around 60. He's 82 now and it still hurts him, not being able to see his great grandchildren, still unsure when he can break into a conversation (sight aids you a lot without realising it), still gets upset occasionally if you explain something you've seen thats nice...etc etc.
Its hard...

God bless the poor fella.

That poor man, RIP David.

As for Moat, I only hope he's rotting in hell.

If any consolation or justice can be drawn, I read somewhere at the time that when Moat pulled the trigger on himself, the recoil moved the barrel of the gun over and whilst half of his jaw and face was gone, he carried on gargling on his own fluids for another 10 minutes.

I read this about PC Rathband and did feel a desperate sorrow for him. The poor sods card was marked back then.

It's so sad, reports suggest that his family life fell apart and he'd recently split from his wife.

I'm sure there will be plenty of sole searching in the Police and accusations about lack of support, but apart from sending round councillors and ensuring he was financially secure there is not realy much more they can do. All the support and money in the world wont get your sight back.

Poor man. After that terrible morning, his whole life fell apart.
I'm sure he was offered all the help and counselling it was felt he needed and for a time observers may have felt that he was bearing up bravely.
But who can say what inner demons harried him?
Rest in peace.

A life ruined by a thug,
A thug who is remembered as a hero by the brain dead segment of our society

Very sad, obviously valued by his colleagues as well

The genuine grief shown by the Chief Constable as she broke into tears during the interview was a testimonial to that

@gbb...I was touched by the story of your father. It must be difficult for him and for friends and family.

Thanks Maz  ...
It's the day to day stuff that's probably worse, breaking into a conversation for instance. We all get a seconds grace when talking to someone, you can see the other person and what he's about to do, that second allows you to wait, or join in.
You can sometimes see the fustration on dads face when he gets it wrong and gets talked over or drowned out. I'm always very conscious of making sure he gets his say...help him back into the conversation. Those little things can have such an impact on someones happiness...let alone the bigger picture.
