Many many thanks for this - used Lexar and everything very easily recovered, and free!

still curious as to what happened for the card to loose its file system - I have two canon cameras, a small one and a medium one, I accidentally used the card that eventually failed in the wrong camera, and when I plugged it back into its original camera it wasn't recognised

any way with your help, I got the half dozen pictures I wanted, so thanks again

And I do like that picture of Mr Kingfisher

Pleased to be of assistance.

The kingfisher is straight out of the camera without any editing. In the end I decided I had a couple of better ones so he got deleted again, only deliberately this time ^_^ I've put a couple in the "Your days wildlife" thread.

My PC fans have been getting noisy in recent weeks so i figured a load of dust must be clogging up the heatsink. It's a five minute fix so on Friday evening I took the side off, found the predicted dust and removed the fan/heatsink, cleaned out all the dust... then kicked myself for not thinking the task through.

Next time I'll make sure I've got some thermal paste before removing the heatsink from the CPU, that way i wont have to spend an entire weekend without my PC.

Can you not get thermal paste in electrical shops? Wouldn't surprise me actually if you couldn't

Phew, I didn't kill it.

Managed to spill water onto my Lenovo Yoga at the weekend without realising - I was outside ! Anyway, yesterday it would only run on power, soon as the USB C came out, it shut down. Wouldn't turn on with battery only. It's needed a new CMOS battery for ages, so popped the base off, and could see a bit of 'water' near the battery - uh oh !.

Left it to dry, pulled the battery and found the CMOS. Ordered a new button battery. This evening, sprayed contact cleaner on the motherboard where there looked to be possible 'reaction' with water near the battery connector, and also sprayed the USB power connector. Let it dry. Amazon just delivered said CMOS battery.

Connected the new CMOS and the main battery and as I click it in place the power button lights up - whooo. Rear cover on and it's now running on the battery, and then back to charging normally when the USB C is plugged back in. Phew. I was looking at new laptops on-line today.

Phew, double phew. It's a decent machine (I7 11th Gen, 16GB Ram, touch screen etc) picked up as a refurb after our old HP Envy fell to bits.
