Does anyone happen to know the right headset size for a Pearson Audax Pro in aluminuim? It's about ten years old.

You are best measuring the old one.

If you just need to replace the bearings are they sealed or caged?

If you want to replace the whole headset then start with the type of heasdset you need - some pics of alloy pro's show it to have a semi-integrated is that right?

I took it apart last night. they are sealed bearings and the bottom set were a bit rusty. I've cleaned everything up and greased it all and I'll see how I get on. If I do decide to replace is it best to measure the bearing ( it's a Cane Creek) or look for a serial number?

It depends on the model but generally headsets used standard bearing sizes so you just buy new bearings.

The important measurements are OD(Outside diameter) ID(internal Diameter)and Depth.

Also vital is the angle of the bevels on the inside ring and the outside ring - the side of the bearing will be marked something like 45x45 - meaning that both angles are 45%.

Armed with this info search "headset Bearings" eg
