I daily challenge arrogant car drivers, a few cyclists are hardly that scary.

Wow.

Cracking a solo.
gentlegreen, I'm going to back you up a little here. Whilst I don't agree with your approach I do agree with the sentiments, and that doesn't seem to have been mentioned.
I rarely if ever see any other cyclist on my commute home, if I do however it's always the same one, they have two mega watt lights on the handle bars and I have to pull over and stop, I cannot see when they are riding towards me. We are on a cycle path, there is no oncoming motorised traffic, one light pointed lower would suffice. I don't make any sort of deal of it, I see them maybe once a fortnight, but if it were night after night and bike after bike, why not tell them?
I don't understand the need for flashing front lights in that situation, surely they would be better served with a steady, I have a bright flasher and a steady, I only use the steady on the cyclepath because the flasher doesn't aid me at all, I only use it where I believe I need additional means to warn other road users of my presence.
I don't agree with gentlegreens bellowing at people, but I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be informed, perhaps if they knew their lights were causing an issue they may do something about it, then again, they may not.

I was going to post a thread about a similar encounter I had on Monday-but this thread kind of covers it.

I was faced with what appeared to be 2 Hope Vision lights (they are the ones that have a casing like ribbed condoms?) on full beam (I'm guessing they have a dimmer switch-if not they should) on the canal between stretford and Sale-reasonably busy, with dog walkers, cyclists and pedestrians. I was completely blinded by his lights and could have ended up in the canal. As I passed I told him his lights were dazzling me. Hopefully this was a one off for him but feck me-they are retina burning.

I'm actually a pacifist (and mostly a vegan ;) )and this is the one area of my life where I get upset - and when I first swapped from motorcycle to pushbike 24 years ago, it was only selfish idiots in cars I had problems with - as there were hardly any cyclists.

I do my best to avoid conflict - I take a long detour to avoid motorised traffic, and on the path, I ride on the very edge where many others refuse to ride and I am obsessive about the speed and closeness with which I pass pedestrians and slower riders.

My "be seen" lights are very bright - 48 LEDs / 4 watts and even cut through fog, so I have a special lower power diffused and non-flashing rear light which I switch over to when on the path - or even if another cyclist comes up behind me.

I have a carefully-crafted dipped beam - not a B&M or Philips, but a £10 triple LED domestic lamp mounted low, aimed down to the extent that I currently lose a chunk of light on my front mudguard. I have a reflective cowling over it. There's just enough spill to catch pedestrians wearing light-coloured clothing and more than enough reflected light so people can see me from some distance away.

The path is rough and covered with debris and I cannot understand why anyone would choose to aim their lights anywhere other than where it's needed.

I have poor night vision and my responses to blinding lights start with me shielding my eyes - sometimes in an exaggerated fashion and escalate from there. Though draconian, I understand why in Germany, nearly every rider (myself included) would expose themselves to a 10 Euro fine for not having a proper dipped beam.

Twanger. Spot on. You aint missing anything.

Going back to the OP I get groups of kids walking along CS3 all the time but I dont get upset about it. I know that when I was their age i did far worse then walk along a cycle lane (not sure we had any to be honest). I just cycle round them.

Gentlegreen, take a chill pill !!!

If I was shouting at that many people in a five minute period I'd probably take a long, hard look at myself.
I reckon 'gentlegreen' might find the A4 a little less stressful. Or wear a cycling cap with the brim pulled down a bit.

I've always seen mine as more of a Volvo estate ... though the only car I really enjoyed owning was a 2CV - you could get a shedload of stuff in that.

a Mega-range cassette
