that's a first

but one thing I can not and never will accept on a bike is............................

a Mega-range cassette

I'm guessing you don't live in Bristol ?- Cotswolds to the North, Mendips to the South ...

It's a bit agricultural, but I'm no roadie ...

I've just noticed.

WTF is that thing on the front of Mr Green's bike?

That's my 48 LED / 4 watt "be seen" light - started life as a £4 camping light from Wilkos. In the middle of that is a triple 2 watt LED lamp. (high beam)

I'm very selective about where I use it - i.e. never on a shared path ...

So why have you put it on full beam and left it unattended facing oncoming traffic at a busy junction ?

For the purposes of the photograph - it's very difficult to take meaningful photos of light sources - it is at the end of the day only 4 watts of LEDs - the equivalent of a small motorcycle headlight.

That is probably the one with the stock LEDs - my current one is a bit less blue.

It isn't actually "full beam" - I didn't even have the 6 watt high beam installed then.

Cracking a solo.
It looks ridiculous.

400bhp, I'm getting tired of this namby pamby, sitting on the fence attitude which you have, for goodness sake say what you think!

It looks ridiculous.

I think you would be described as quaint by the Yanks.

Form follows function. I don't give a fig if it doesn't look "cool" - it cost all of a fiver.

After many years of experimentation, I feel naked without it.

This is what preceded it for a couple of years while I was comparing light sources :- :-

LEDs top, fluorescent middle, 20 watt QH bottom.

I miss the fluorescent - almost the ideal lamp for the Bristol to Bath path - for being seen, anyway. (though perhaps the 20 watt incandescent car lamp had an even warmer colour)

Oh my.

Is that a plastic plumbing pipe compression fitting?

This is my latest contraption, I only switch it on for two junctions on my journey home. Two roads that join from the left, and I am sick of the planks that just pull out in front of me. Never really sure if they have seen me and are just pushing out which is not that bad, or rather worryingly they just have not seen me at all.

So with this fitted I can light up their faces then surely they must know I'm there. No body has pulled out in the first week of wearing it. probably get splattered tonight after saying that

I saw one of those on top of another head, only this one was Beachy.

I disagree, I think both parties have a shared responsibility
1: As a cyclist you should ride at a reasonable speed with appropriate lighting.
2: As a pedestrian you have a responsibility to ample efforts to make yourself visible especially if you are walking in the dark on a known cycle path.

If I am riding my bicycle on the road I make every effort to make myself as visible as possible.

1. Agree
2. Disagree

In the UK, with a tiny number of exceptions (of which this is not one), there are no cycle paths (that is, there are no paths that are designated cyclist's priority), there are pedestrian paths upon which cycles are tolerated guests. Pedestrians wouldn't need to wear high-vis if cyclists weren't there, so they shouldn't need to wear it when cyclists are there.

There is absolutely no reason for you not to see pedestrians, no matter how dark their clothing, unless you're going too fast and/or with inadequate lighting.

Your comment about how visible you should be on the road, as on the road is utterly irrelevant, as on the road you are the same as any other vehicle and should comply with the law on lighting.
