If you rely on other peoples reactions to feel good you are probably onto a loser.

There are a growing number on here who seem to feel the need to offer support/sympathy to "make" people feel good about themselves. As Scotty said to Cpt. Kirk "It's nobbery Jim, but not as we know it."

i kind of agree that there has been a decline in the way people tend to treat each other.

Some are considerate & others are ignorant, some are only to willing to help or say hello while others would prefer to just pass you by & keep them selves to them selves, either way it ain't worth getting annoyed about.

seems to me there are that many odd balls around i kind of prefer to keep to myself when im out, but if somebody acknowledges me with a nod of there head or a hello i do find it only polite to respond but i don't expect a response from every rider i acknowledge.

manners cost nothing is what i was always taught & that has always stuck with me.

NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!

lol.

In my area practically every cyclist acknowledges an approach. In the SE of England I'd not expect that to happen.

On that you would be wrong, and dare I say it, displaying regional prejudice.

Riding as a single or in small groups, other cyclists in the surrey hills almost unfailingly give a nod/wave/finger flick/word of acknowledgement. It happens less on a busy weekend for the sole reason that there are so many cyclists around it would develop into a semaphoric frenzy of mutual acknowledgement.

I ride often in the club kit of a long standing, and one time large, surrey club. Very frequently some stranger will ride along side and ask about one or other of the old timers in the club or just about the old times and the events the club used to run.

Yep. And whilst I, on encountering a fellow wheeler coming uphill when I am descending Pitch, do not indulge in whoops of "Up! Up! Up! Up! Up! Up!" myself, I don't mind it in the least when I'm the climber.
