Having had another look at the headset but it is one piece affair hence why they wouldn't separate, all sorted now just needs a fine tune on the freeplay .

Swapped the front marathon out for another marathon that I have a matching one for the rear.

A 1 mile test ride completed with a few more gears than I started with so gave the trigger shifters a spray of degreaser and left it to soak in .

A garage session this morning has seen the rear specialized nimbus swapped out for a marathon that matches the front one.

Headset has been tweaked by removing the top caged bearing and using loose ones.

And all 21 gears reported for business on the 2.5 mile ride test.

Well another 8 miles have been travelled with all the gears reporting for a much freer action when the trigger lever is activated.

Such a smooth and effortless bike to ride.

Project Sierra has just been collected

One owner from new no use for last 25 years thankfully seat post and handle bar stem are both free , couple of spokes are broken .

Needs a de dust and a light recommissioning and should be good to go .

Finally got a bit of time to spend with the sierra this morning.

Wiped the dust off the hubs to check for date codes and none as they are 'Sunshine' units rather than the expected ones who's name escapes me . Front caliper has 83.1 on it so 1983 sounds about right to me

My job this morning went a lot easier than expected, removed the stay clamping stand , mudguards so they don't get damaged whilst working on the bike and the pedals which I could have whistled at to undo themselves no need for my long pedal spanner.

Replaced the 2 rear broken spokes on the wolber rim with some of my reclaimed ones and also found a third broken one so replaced that as well .

I surprised myself by blowing up the tyres as it's easier to move when they are inflated and both inflated and stayed up .

Whilst I am thinking about it anyone got any brown outer brake cable??

Rear hub dismantled and given a good clean and removed all the old grease that had gone hard , before rebuilding with fresh grease and with the help of these old tools

Just had an hour and half playing with bearings, cones , tyres and rims .

Result is two rims cleaned , two gatorskins fitted and a front hub stripped cleaned and serviced.

Next job is bottom bracket strip and clean
