Out of interest why did you bother removing the fixed (DS) cup?

When I'm just servicing/ regreasing I leave the fixed one in place, remove only the adjustable one, and clean inside the BB shell with a rag, because removing the fixed cup can be such a PITA.

Is it just because you're more thorough than me?

If I'm replacing the ball bearing setup with a sealed unit then I remove both cups, obvs.

Mainly because the amount of dried up grease I have found on everything connected to bearings.

And I always try to re use as much as I can of the original parts.

Definitely a pia to remove though

@biggs682 - I had the same issue with the 1948 Claud Butlee. The seller suggested some parts hadn't been ever greased since new.

I think this one had only been very lightly used before being put away and forgotten about.

Certainly should ride a bit easier than it would have done if I had tried it before handing over my hard earned cash .

Fitted cables this morning and managed a quick 0.75 mile test ride .

Guards need cleaning before re fitting and a few little adjustments required once I have done another 5 miles of testing.

13 mile road test completed this morning and a few little adjustments made as the miles went by.

All in all very smooth and happy with the result.

Just need to find some bar tape .

An interesting looking Elephant bike has popped up on my radar , these have puzzled me for a while and I might be able to sneak a viewing before it gets listed for sale

Ooh, theyve often intrigued me. Let me know if you pick one up and I'll pop over for a nosey if that's ok. I've often considered one as amoure utility tool just for local hops.

That's good to hear, can't imagine you would rush off to use it if you fancied a quick ride.

Another 34 miles this morning on the Sierra and it was man and machine in perfect harmony it really was a lovely ride .

Right brain picking time guys , I have a set of 27" wheels and the front rim has the remainder of this sticker I think I can read alloy rim but no idea what make ? Laced to a 78 date code Atom hub .
