I have noticed a couple of interesting stories today on the above subject.

At the airport in Salt Lake City they now have a scanner that shows you up completely naked , to the operator.

At the Etoile station on the Paris Metro there are advertisements that watch you watching them. They monitor how long you stand in front of them , may be able to determine your age and sex , and will be able to send messages to your phone via Bluetooth.

You can run but you can't hide

Links?

Not bothered by the scanner thing and I wonder if that advert can tell if you've got your back to it? I don't have a mobile either, so that doesn't bother me at all.

Only if your Bluetooth is switched on, and you wish to accept.
It happens already in stores, at gigs.. it's nothing new.

Surely with the scanner this is a process that can be computerised to take out the human element? Only adverse scans need be looked at by a human.

I think they should have a scanner that shows you up completely naked on a massive 10 foot projector screen to the whole airport.

Salt Lake City? Paris? Kindergarten stuff.

"The government is planning to get around a European court ruling that condemned Britain's retention of the DNA profiles of more than 800,000 innocent people by keeping the original samples...

...A damning ruling last December criticised the "blanket and indiscriminate nature" of the UK's current DNA database - which includes DNA from those never charged with an offence

Since its foundation in 1995, the database has become the world's largest. Of its 5 million entries, more than a million are children and 857,000 innocent people.

Home Office sources said the government, which was given three months to respond to the ruling, has "no plans" to destroy samples of DNA."

Great idea! It will take some of the boredom of having to wait in the queue and promote good humour by providing something to laugh at.

I can't say I am bothered by body scanners that can see through clothes. After all my arse looks pretty much the same as everyone else's, give or take a few inches.

I followed the link to the pictures, and I reckon you'd have to be pretty desperate to get turned on by them. It is intended to perform a specific function where high security is needed, and I am dubious about attempts to link it to wider surveilance issues such as CCTV cameras and ID cards, where the stated benefit is more poorly defined.

The government's unpublished aim is to have a DNA record of the vast majority of the population.

Eventually this will be your "ID"

The smokescreen about ID cards holding info about is just that, because as soon as they can they will simply have you place any bit of skin onto a DNA reader and at that point they know all about you and can start building up their database.

DNA readers will replace credit cards, oyster cards, ID cards, car keys, house keys and office passes.

My laptop already has a fingerprint reader which I can activate so that the PC can not be used by anyone else. The DNA reader is the logical next step and at that point you fit it to mobile phones, front doors of house and offices, your car ignition and so on

No DNA means the total inability to interface with the modern world, even getting on a bus will be impossible. There will of course be refusenics, but they won't have the ability to enter or leave the country, they can't get money from a bank, they can't travel (except by bike!) but given a generation they will dissapear as DNA will be obtained at birth

Far fetched ? Not a bit of it, I'm sure we will see DNA records created at birth within a decade, most of the rest will follow within our lifetimes

Good - think of all the time you would save not having to look for credit cards, oyster cards, ID cards, car keys, house keys and office passes - time that could be spent on something far more productive!
New fashions would spring up of clothes without pockets, it would be so convenient.
