Shouldn’t ever be done.
It might be OK for steam locomotives and ships, but who wants to call their bike Mallard or QEII.
Pet names for bikes ( and motorhomes and cars) make me cringe. It’s on a par with fully grown adults talking in a baby voice to each other , or worse, to their pets.
However, if I was forced to give a bike a name it would probably be to one of my Dawes Galaxies : a long-suffering model that has been with me a long time. This grand old dame is a bit heavy and lardy but she has a wonderfully voluptuous seat and can still do the business. I think I would call her Doris and with the certain knowledge that she can still give me a very comfortable ride.
As for the recently acquired bit-on-the-side, an exotic little folder, I shall keep her name a secret in case Doris finds out.
