I'm an avid reader, but am very aware of being nowhere near as well read as I ought to be; I tend to stick to what I know I like, which is mostly science fiction/fantasy type stuff, with the odd text book thrown in when a particular subject grabs my attention. I'm in a reading rut, if you will.

With that in mind, I'm on a mission to self-improve through reading; if you could suggest one book that I really ought to read, for whatever reason you fancy, what would it be?

This book is in the form of a novel, but explores the two philosophies of Classical vs. Romantic sensibility.
It also has good reasoning for maintenance of that which you own.
