BBC basic maths fail

BBC story

"It would mean, for instance, that instead of the sun rising in Newcastle-upon-Tyne at 0714 and setting at 1723, as it does at this time of year, it would rise at 0814 and set at 1623".

Oh no it wouldn't.

Am I missing something............................

Surely if the sun rises at 07:14 and sets at 17:23 then by adding an hour (to both) it becomes 07:14 and 18:23 as the article states.

Let me see..................

Uk drive on left - rest of Europe drive on right (except Malta)

Most of Europe use the Euro (arguments for and against) the UK still on good old Pounds and Pence.

Most of Europe on CET but not UK.

Someones out of step somewhere...............

They've corrected it since my post - look at the sunset time in my quote!

I could see it now in the Daily Wail - "selfish sports participants knock two hours off day".....

Looks as though they've corrected the mistake.
I've always thought the twice yearly clock change is unneccessary but would you like to see us join CET as is being suggested, or should we keep with GMT?

Now that the original mistake has been sorted out, I'd like to say that I support the idea.

What I'd really like is it being light here until about 23:00 in June. We could get some stunning summer forum rides in without needing lights (or having to set off stupidly early)!

I was wondering about the impact of this on the Friday Night Rides, particularly in optimum Summer times, for a very early sunrise and its attendant pleasures.

There's an argument for banning time altogether, and letting everyone find their own level...(trains, buses, boats and planes excepted)

That sounds cool Aperitif - I might try it tomorrow on my boss.

"Why have you arrived at 4 and are leaving at 4.15?"

"I've banned time altogether, dude - I've no idea what you're talking about".

BTW - what is the argument for banning time altogether - it sounds like one I need to know

Wristwatches are massively overpriced for a kick-off.

It may not exist in the first place, so if that was the case it seems a pretty strong case for banning it.

That's good enough for me - I'm banning it.

Actually, I've never owned a watch in my life. I do prefer not to be ruled by the time.

I think letting the present flow around you without being obsessed by it's speed is very calming and actually makes you more productive.

Unfortunately, now I'm tied to several mobiles, I know the time, all the time.
