Planet Rock took over the FM frequency in Birmingham from Kerrang Radio, which was very good. So instead of an eclectic mix of new music of various in-your-face styles, and some old classics, we got a bunch of cliched Dad rock as though nothing had been released since the late 80s. Emo, grunge and various forms of thrash metal were replaced by poodle pop.

I’m order to protect the radio, I stopped listening.

Erm, Cadillac Three, Joe Bonamassa, Blackberry Smoke, Black Star Riders.... all stuff from the last 5 years, all played this morning. They do have shows that specialisise on one area of rock, usually in the evenings, but their main output has a very respectable sprinkling of new and current bands.

Earlier this year I could have gone to see 'Black Country Communion' (Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham and Glenn Hughes) with backstage passes (Maz's Nephew, Carl Swann, is Glenn's manager)
I declined.

In other news Carl is in Germany right now as Glenn is recording with Jeff Beck.

They do have a certain chemistry on the radio, with their gentle pith taking out of each other. They repeated it on a Tuesday night.
I think it's a great chemistry between two friends with a love of motorbikes, food & rock music. Especially funny about Dave's addiction to The Scorpions & Simon being musically stuck in 1976:laugh:.

Also got to mention Dave's all-time rock hero...Rick Wakeman (Journey to the Centre of the Earth still his masterpiece). When he co-presented the show with Si on holiday, it was flippin' hilarious:laugh:.

Oh my days, Rick Wakeman is so funny. Hes an equal opportunities nutter, happy to take the pith out of a anyone, particularly if they're German. I often wondered how he didn't get arrested live on air.

I enjoy Nights with Alice Cooper, clearly a very clever and well read chap who trots out some amazing trivia.

Ahh, yes I remember now. I used to love Kerrang radio. Absolute is more mainstream IMO.
