Not a waste of time. I stayed for 45 minutes chatting to them about their business and quite enjoyed it. Warned them that the bike had gone on offer. I'm not one to take liberties.

Then bank balance doesn't quite agree with me. Either have to eat cardboard for a few months or have to crowdfund myself a bike hahah!

After trying out the Planet X, I was really impressed!

Enjoy whatever you decide to purchase. You said specialized and the Tarmac works better for you than PX, so why not get an allez?

Yes, they were completely ok - that is what sort of people they were, trying to help a person like me to progress in the cycling world instead of flatly refusing to see me.

I missed the delivery of my RT58 yesterday (nothing to do with Yodel, I wasn't home). Due for redelivery today.

My suggestion of an Allez was completely serious - if you want a Tarmac but lack the funds, the Allez with the same frame essentially seems a logical option. There must be plenty for sale second hand given how ubiquitous they are!

So let's see, 4 page thread asking for advice. Quite happy to go around to a seller's house with no intention of buying it (I think you've got a bloody cheek frankly), now stating that:

Well, it arrived.

I went for a built bike from Planet X because I could have exactly what I wanted and save around £1,000 - £1,500 by having Planet X on the frame and not a big bike name.

The pros: Cost saving. Built to order. Pride in it being a British company. Choose colour you want.

The.... not pros: Delivery time longer than you're led to believe. Didn't fill me with the heart-stopping thrill taking home a Pinarello or Bianchi brought with it (the benefit of the saving neutralised right there).

On the whole, I'm glad I got it but I'm still getting used to it. It seems to lack some responsiveness compared to another of my bikes even though that one's on its last legs now.

Another mistake I made was to upgrade on the saddle. There was a free option with the build but I went for an expensive white San Marco which is very uncomfortable so I switched it back to a well-worn but still very comfortable Selle Italia which is now seven years old but amongst the best buys I ever made.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with going to look at numerous bikes, chatting up the staff at the different stores, taking your time before making a serious investment, being open that you're looking around and shopping around. People play tunes with their options all the time.

I have a frameset coming to put my 105 stuff on to. Interesting that you says lacks response, when so many say that it is quite twitchy on the front. What size stem do you use?
