5p for a bag is fair dinkum. Choose to pay, or choose to recycle. I don't have a problem with either.

I don't have a dog but walk one sometimes. Aren't poop bags meant to be Compostable ones?
I guess that would make more sense, and now at 5p a poop I will get some propoer compostable ones. Our local council recently got rid of all the dog-poo bins, and now you are meant to just out them in the regular litter bins (which now smell horribly of dog poop as a result).

I read it but couldn't relate to it. My bags live in a utility cupboard, not a bathroom.

What germs lurk on tinned and jarred goods that are going to transfer to the bag and survive the days hanging up in a cool dry cupboard between shops? Those sorts of germs are probably widespread in our environment and not much of a worry.

Looking in the bottom of my wife's shopping bags it seems they don't need to be kept in the bathroom to get dirty. I might mention this to her when I'm feeling brave.

The amount of waste we prduce is staggering..
fast food ,lazy people, regulations, its all a load of rubbish that we cant deal with..
the answer to this will never really be found..
i hate seeing rubish in the streets, so maybe we need to start with the way people behave.
SINGAPORE have a good rep for this

We've been paying 5p for plastic bags for a while now, or 10p for the "bags for life".
Have finally got into the habit of keeping some in the car.
But quite often go to pack the shopping and remember they're still in the car

Dog poo was declassified some years ago, so you can put it in any bin. That said, our local councils (Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire) seem to have kept the dog poo bins as well.
Which is a surprise, as councils used to be charged much more for dog bin emptying despite their smaller size. I don't know the current charges as I'm no longer a parish councillor that has to deal with such crap. ;)

There's lots of evidence out there about the harm that plastics bags pose to the environment - only an idiot would think it's some kind of conspiracy theory. The article in the OP was complete bunkum.

The article I posted is impartial, neither pro or anti, and just reports the results of their findings. Hardly call it 'bunkum' or refer to it as some kind of conspiracy theory.

Does it offend you so much as it shows the effects aren't maybe as bad as we are being told? I suppose it is like everything though - there are arguments for and against no matter what the subject.

I don't mind paying 5p a bag, in fact I'd pay more if it helps the environment. Got to balance out the fumes my diesel car produces somehow :-D

I think using proper degrades-to-water bin liners is probably the best option if you empty your bin at least monthly.

Maybe. Just wondering about the impact of manufacturing these bin liners, after all, the plastic bags were being made anyway.

I've been preparing for this for some weeks. It's essential to buy a box of cereal or similar, then you can stack the rest on top, slide off counter, downward pressure on top item with chin and stroll home. Just don't try to enter into conversation with anyone you meet.
