It's a lesson in inflation, this thread.

Mind you, I watched a repeat of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads last night on BBC4. Terry and Bob were in a pub for lunch, and had a pint each, a beef sandwich, a cheese sandwich, a pie and two sausages, and the whole round came to 82p...

Can't get a Mars Bar at a railway station for that now.

My two are now into earning money for jobs round the house. Offers like a few quid to tidy their rooms get ignored, but easy jobs like hoovering or washing pots get accepted sometimes.

My son, year 8, gets a pound a day then a fiver on a Friday for lunch (pack lunch on Monday to Thursday).

Huh - WTF is he eating :hungry:

My parents dont give me any pocket money. Instead I have to give them £225 a month.

And I bet their still out of pocket after feeding you etc, something I never worked out until I left home..

Shocked by the amount of pocket money some children are getting, and the ages at which a mobile contract seems the norm. My kids at 7 & 9 get 50p a week, and that's only if they do the hovering, clean their rooms etc.

I worked out that I would spend at least £250 if I was living on my own. And that is the basics for rent, bills, food, and leaving nothing for luxuries.

Am I really the only person whose house seems to be affected by gravity??

My ex and I split up 13 years ago when my stepdaughter was 16. At the time, she was just starting college and her mum's income was low so I gave £20/week to help out. (Which is precisely £20/week more than the 'sperm donor' a.k.a. her biological father ever contributed! :cursing:)

I don't give my children pocket money.
I don't think they need a fixed amount each week, we've tried it in the past and it mostly got spent on sweets. Mr6 tops up phones for those that need it, usually £10 every couple of months and no reasonable requests for money are refused.
If they want to go to the cinema or a party, have seen a book they really want, that sort of thing. Eldest daughter used to have quite an expensive starbucks habit, but she has a job now!
They all do chores in the house - washing up, dog walking, that sort of thing - they earn points, and the person with the most points at the end of a week gets a treat, the girls usually get a nail polish or something sparkly and youngest son saves his points until I'll pay for another game on steam.
