Police chase ends in death

Please forgive me but I'd like to answer this question

There are quite a few tv programs that show police pursuing "criminals" drivers.... that is all very well but when a driver becomes dangerous to the public in his / her effort to scape then one has to question the police's judgement.... too many times the chase is for something that is not worth the risk the public is put under... about a month ago, in a tv program, a driver nearly run over a man while trying to scape from the police. When he was finally stopped it turned out that the driver had no insurance and that is why he was trying to scape the police. Yes, it's illegal to drive a vehicle without insurance BUT if he had killed that man.... what then?

Did he lean out of the car window and shout to the police officers - "Hey guys, look, don't worry about chasing me ok? I've just been a bit naughty and not insured my car, I don't have any drugs/children/stolen goods stashed away in the boot."

I guess then the Police could telepathically check that he was telling the truth, and let him go, then pop round to his house later and bust him for not having insurance?

Also, a lack of police chase when my friend was run over by a speeding driver, whose licence had been revoked for speeding in the past, and who was uninsured... didn't stop her dying, but it did help him not get caught for weeks afterwards.

From what I understand of this case, it wasn't a chase anyway: the police car put its blue lights on, the car sped away and then immediately crashed.

To pursue or not is always going to be a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If criminals know that all they have to do to escape the police is drive dangerously, then we'll have a lot more dangerous driving on the roads ...
