I thought of the same effect before reading @luckyfox 's post. Picking out a shiny cherry in red would compliment the title section.

Try picking up an antique tea cup and saucer in a charity shop - thats where I shop when looking for props for my food photos.
I quite like the cup on the grass but maybe on a picnic cloth, with a cricket ball and/or bat to the side.
Hate the urn but understand the thinking behind it.

I've got a few other cups (and saucers) but this one was the oldest, the others are mainly Susie Cooper 1930/40's so don't know if that would create a problem with style, the book is partly set now and the 1890's perhaps people wouldn't notice/mind the anachronism....

Don't like the picture - particularly the urn as other people have mentioned, but I have been using a kindle for most of my reading the last few years and have never in that time looked at a book cover before I bought it - always base my decisions on the synopsis or sample pages so not sure the cover actually matters with an E book

I like the bright red ball on the greyed out grass at the bottom of the cover.... that ticks the box for me... with just the grey faded-out from the grass up the cover all printed on a smooth matte finish with the title and your name in a simple typeface picked out in white gloss finish so it shines out from the matte grey background?

TBH, I doubt people would be that pedantic.....they just want to see a nice cover and obviously something related to the book plot/title would work best

It's ok. The Urn looks a crappy cut and paste job though - need a better pic.
+1

And I'm viewing it on an iPhone.

I use kindle on iPhone and kindle device.

It looks like a book for old men, maybe that's the target market?

I haven't voted because I would never buy a book on cricket.

The plot does involve coffee, cheese and (obviously) cricket that's why I went cup and urn..... but is the cup required or is the cricket reference required.... (serious pondering required me thinks)

what about dropping the cricket aspect of the picture and going for a spilt cup of coffee, using thick rich neat Camp coffee.... Yes you can still buy it:eek: for a deep dark image or perhaps use a cricket ball to imply the coffee has been knocked over....
