A combo of reasons. Being out of a job and it means I still have affordable transport. Mostly its a hobby. I like mountain biking because its something different, the views are great and I get a kick out of riding the rough stuff. I like how much faster I can go when road cycling and there have been exceptions where I have overtaken motorised vehicles which gives me a huge thrill, only ever happened a couple of times. It also gets me out more aswell as keepin fit. The government doesnt eat up most of my wages this way either.

I cycle in my spare time, so I am not sitting at home in front or television or filling out pointless polls

I cycle because I enjoy it and makes me fit. I've been to places on the bike that I would never have visited if I only drove.

Other stuff such as not having to fill it with fuel and not polluting the environment are bonuses from my point of view.

I cycle for fitness mainly , also the social side of being in a club is good. Although if I could still run long distance I would never have taken cycling as seriously as I have. Must admit though it is a good second to running.

For me it ticks several boxes;
  1. It keeps my weight to a manageable level and increases my fitness from bloody awful to just-about-OK :smile:
  2. It saves the money I'd otherwise spend on petrol.
  3. I get to see the outside world not hemmed in by the roof/door pillars of a car. If I ever get a recumbent I'll be able to see the sky better as well :becool:.
  4. I can test myself now and again with the odd sportive/distance ride.
That'll do for now.

I also cycle because for some odd reason during a bike ride, it's impossible to maintain a bad mood ^_^. So cycling is my panacea for all the things I don't like about my life.
