I usually always cycle with a rucksack with things I need for the ride inside. I wondering when out earlier whether a rucksack filled with blocks of polystyrene would be beneficial for the back in cases of being hit from behind? Similar to how the polystyrene in helmets make the chances of head injury far less. What do you guys think?

I think it's good idea, the polystyrene will provide protection from the gear you carry in your rucksack.

Hmm thread didn't go to plan. Maybe too subtle.

I've always suspected that this rucksack might be filled with bubble wrap...

The thing I worry about being hit behind is when I'm stationary with me feet on the ground and thus the base of my spine near the pointy nose of the saddle. Even a gentle knock will get that saddle giving me a heavy bruise on the spines base (cocyx or something) which ain't too pleasant.
