It's malware or an add-on - the ad code on CC doesn't exist when you're logged in. :okay:

Malwarebytes - https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/thankyou/ - ensure you download the latest update before running; and delete items from quarantine before removing the software.

ESET Online Scanner - http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ - takes a while, but can find things MWB misses.

.... and for good measure you could use the Norton online scanner - https://security.symantec.com/nss/getnss.aspx?langid=ie&venid=sym

Hope these help and you get it resolved.

Just out of interest, have you tried an alternative browser?

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Shaun, it seems to only be with chrome, IE had no problems. Is there a way of cleaning up chrome?

Cheers,

Yeah , uninstall chrome, I have found chrome to be more of a nuisance than other browsers like mozilla firefox. Open "task manager",using control-alt-delete , start chrome and see how many instances of chrome actually start up.
you can install all of the suggested programmes in chrome and you can also reset chrome to its original state by choosing "options" on the tool bar, then settings, advanced settings, reset.

Ok opened task manager and then chrome and 6 chrome entries appeared in the processes tab....does this suggest the presence of nasties?

No - it means that Chrome is designed differently to Firefox and other web browsers. Chrome will start multiple processes for various sub-tasks. Each time you open a new tab in the Chrome browser, another Chrome process appears in Task Manager. After a while, the total memory used by these processes mounts up, which is why I generally prefer Firefox. Although the Chrome developers claim it has light memory usage, this isn't really the case: the memory usage is just spread over more processes than for other browsers.
