All he has to do for now is stand in a field and try not to hurt himself.

This, it seems, is too much to ask. He’s already picked up two minor grazes and one deeper cut. Not unusual for horses turned out full-time, but still a constant worry. So far, nothing that a squirt of purple spray can’t deal with.

Yes, a general wound spray that is a staple on any stable yard.

And tonight, another little wound! 🙄

It is clear from the hoof prints in the field that he is cantering around the field, and sometimes sliding to a stop. He’s already pulled two shoes off and now he has ‘overreached’, which is where the hind hoof comes forward and catches the back of the front leg. Again, it’s not serious but another little nick that will no doubt scar. He’s not even three yet!

There’s a Connemara mare in the next field and they have made friends over the fence, plus a couple of small ponies that wander the grounds that he can see and interact with if they come over.
