It was a big hovercraft - one of the cross-channel ones. My friend's dad was a hovercraft pilot, hence we got cheap tickets so used the hovercraft rather than the ferry.

On a very trivial note (about myself in a very roundabout way) inspired by MDBr's nick and his mention of my place of work:
couple of years ago was working at the bike show at the secc: suddenly this group of beefy, booted, helmeted guys appear, ask me dismayed: is this a bicycle show??? ..... They thought is was about motorbikes!

That's not a tractor, that's a pile of batteries with some wheels.

It's an electric compact tractor, I designed and built it so I can call it a tractor. Peak power about 25hp, 3F1R gears, PTO and steering brakes. Soon it will have a logging winch on the back and maybe a small, 250kg, hydraulic crane.

Talking of the SECC, I am a *very* country member of the Hellensburgh Model Railway Club, and, as such, was helping with the stewarding at Model Rail Scotland the other week there.

I'm one of the peeps who get roped into it every year because our club does a lot of the organising, so I can be found over the 4 days helping set up, then stewarding until Sunday when we take it all down again.

This year I got to the heady heights of stamping people's hands at the entrance to... Hall 3 I think it was. The hall they normally use anyway.

I'm so glad it is only once a year!
