@CopperCyclist you say " ...having an officer as an ip makes a difference, because it really doesn't..." what's an "ip"?

My question is this: Why is it murder if you run over a police officer, but not if you kill a cyclist whilst in charge of a motor vehicle?

It could be.

It all rests on one thing: intent (and the ability to prove that).

I felt sick when I read that report yesterday. The police get so much stick for a lot of things, often unjustly, but when it comes down to it, these guys are in a job where they could as easily be looking at dull shift with not much going on or be facing a thug with a car or a grenade and we expect them to deal with everything as 'part of the job'.

The stress placed on cops' families can be unbearable, worrying if your wife/husband/mother/son will head off to work and perhaps not come back.

I hope this cowardly b'stard gets the maximum sentence on conviction.

Many Many (over 25 Years) ago a copper jumped out in front of me in the early hours of the morning with his arm aloft to make me stop, i didn't and missed him by inches! didn't even realize it was a copper and drove back round the block to give him an earful! There for the grace go I and him!

Of course condolences to all affected by this tragedy
