Power failure torch

Early next year I am anticipating moving to somewhere rural where there will be no more light than that which nature can produce.

I recall that when I was last in such a position, over 30 years ago, I had a torch which plugged into the mains and would start flashing in event of a power cut to make it easier to find.

The past three decades must have allowed things to improve. Can anyone recommend a modern equivalent. I have searched and there are many options but I still prefer true, honest experience.

At work we have a permanent light above the fire-exit that is permanently on and stays on for hours (built in batter) in the event of a power failure. There is no switch so it never goes off. It is bright enough to dimly light the whole room. Not what you're alluding to but it could be very useful in the event of an extended power failure.

I bought a couple of really bright LED torches from Aldi and keep one in my kitchen and one in my bedroom, just in case. They are much brighter than the auto-light that I used to have. I know where they are kept so I could feel my way to them in the dark.

I would be tempted to buy one bright torch per room and always keep them in places where they are easy to find in the dark.

A good torch is a must, even if it is just for the 1.3 miles walk from the pub in winter.

There's a thread somewhere about the shortest distance you'll cycle.
1.3 miles to the pub by bike is a great journey.

But the 3.7 wobbly miles home is an awesome journey :hyper:

I keep a front bike light on my living room window sill.
We don't really get power cuts in my area, but the light is handy to see into my front garden.
I also have a wind up torch.
Both this options left in an easy to remember place would get you to the main torch.
