Before I stopped cycling last year I was looking to buy the Stages FSA power meter. I know they are not that important, but I liked the idea of tracking power and sustaining a level for time. The crank arm option does seem to be about £400 now, not cheap. Can the single arm option be problematic and has anyone used one?

I've used a stage gen 2 for almost years. I connected it to my garmin 520. I have not had any issues with it.
The only thing with crank arm power meters is that once you get a new bike with a different group set it doesn't match the look anymore.

I like training with a power meter over heart rate because:
- you can better measure your training load.
- you can compare the watts per kilogram of weight you might need to say beat a kom.

Your heart rate load can be affected by many variables... like how many cups of coffee you've had before the ride
