This sorry thing...

...has been kicking around since erm... the end of lockdown. When a few roolz were lifted, it was chaos and the frame project restoration got left behind. Ordered paint (second time around - there's a long jackanory in the first but I won't string this out unnecessarily).

Started work again Monday...
[pearlescent Cobalt blue, 2k lacquer after decal fitment]

...and nearly there. Some bits and pieces to do. Ordered SS M5 bottle cage bolts. Forks to get flatted and polished tomorrow.

I think a 2k lacquer is the answer to home resprays for the tough coat, but it's nasty stuff.

Good job. Why the asymmetrical paint?

Some unusual details in that, not really looked at some of their older stuff. Which model is/was it? Stepped downtube for strength I assume, and screw adjusters in vertical dropouts seems… dangerous. 😀

Polished Aluminium - but it is sealed in the 2k. - one of the main reasons I had to use 2k. It's a Galileo circa '98 to '04 (IIRC)*. My idea was to give it a retro look. There wasn't a snowflakes chance that I could reproduce the original paint work.
This I bought in 2006 on a well known auction site. Some bloke bought it from Evans. Built it up with his own bits, decided it was too small for him and tried to get a refund. Another chap bought it off him with the intention of building it up but didn't get round to it so it sat in his shed for 6 years. When I got it, it was virtually pristine.
I used it as my summer bike for 5 years, then as winter bike for another 3 but one day I noticed the paint bubbling on the down tube near the BB and a massive roughly 15cm x 3cm strip of paint pealed off. Pity because the original factory paint job was beautiful - in that ornate Italian old school style.
But then, as I learned, paint adhesion to Alu is pretty tricky.

*I really wanted the Opera at the time but didn't have the funds.

As above, Galileo. Asymmetrical paint like many 70's/80's chrome jobs.
