What would you wear cycling to the CTC dinner dance?

I'll go out on a limb here and say that Greg would wear black

I said "I'm not wearing insert shorts" when I was twelve. Big mistake. One 25 mile trip to Evesham later and I wished I listened to my Mom.
I wore a pair of 'baggies'. Well, at the time they were elasticated waistband jungle shorts. The wind got in each leg every time my knee went up and they were a miniture parachute 140 times a minute.

You can wear 'Baggies' if you insist, but these are "impractical" clothing on a roadrace bike.

Nonsense. Only if you are racing or TT'ing. But for every day trips, rides and/or commute, baggies are fine.

on a 5-mile commute to work i wear my office trousers and shirt, no problem with that. for all casual riding (to the shops, visiting friends etc) i don't wear cycle specific clothing or shoes. i like the comfort of brooks saddle (although i don't like their looks) and i can ride in jeans with no major discomfort up to 200km. lycra however is very good for fast riding, it doesn't flap about and tight layers keep you warmer and take less space in your luggage/pockets.
