I think the only thing I've "pre-ordered" has been hard copies of highly anticipated video games, they were available to order about a month before the release and it did at least guarantee you a copy - they do often sell out. Same with the consoles themselves sometimes.

But yes, the "pre" would seem redundant, you're just ordering I suppose. Or reserving one.
