I am writing in relation to Tesco’s policy of pre-packing fresh fruit and veg, and the difficulty in buying suitable quantities that this creates for those of us who live alone.
Something we are very bad at in the UK. When I lived in France and cycle touring France & Netherlands bread and cakes often in multi-packs and not carrying food I wantone or fewer than multi-pack size so I ask assistant, they take multi-pack then return having broken down multi-pack and I have what I want packed, labelled and priced and shelf has individually packed and priced items. And individual price is always half the two pack price (no rip-off).

I've tried the same in UK, even Waitrose (whose reputation is to "go that bit further") and never managed to have a pack split.

The jacket potatoes really annoy me in Morrisons. They sell them loose, and in packets. When the pre-packed ones were on special offer a few weeks ago, they cleverly didn't display like for like weight/price for comparison. It was something like pre-packed was pence/100g and loose were each or something as ridiculous. There also seems to be a lot of mildly sweaty ones in the loose box when they have nearly run out, almost as if someone has just opened a bag with a BBE date that has elapsed and scattered them loose
