Premium bonds - weird coincidence

I know the draw is completely random, but I often wonder if some batches of numbers do better than others.

I know that there are some numbers that were "sold" many many years ago and have been forgotten about

I know that when I was a kid I was sometimes gievn a Premium bond or several for a special birthday so when I was 18 or so I know I had some

and no-one has ever told me about them being sold back/cashed in

but I can find no trace of it so there is a possibility I could have won BIG and don;t know it

but there must be thousands of ones like this - and some must won something sometimes!

There is also a saying that if yours are not winning then cashing them in and buying new ones is a good way to make them win more
not sure that is correct but........

Must be nearly 2 years now I think. No, I invested the full amount and haven’t taken any out.

If it were me, I would look at the percentages over each of the 2 years and take one of 2 courses of action, if you were unhappy with the returns:
1) wait another 12 months to see if it improves, or
2) cash them in and put the £ somewhere else.

I do have the maximum which is why I’m not happy with what I’ve won since taking them out. Only one month I got £275 if I remember correctly. I’ve had a lot of just £25 or £50 which I feel is poor.

How much in total though over the 12 months. If you'd invested it in a bond, you may only get paid annual interest to get the best rate (and potentially lose 40% of it to the taxman depending on what other taxable savings you have).
Certainly max out your isa allowance every year if you can!

When my father died there were some Premium Bonds with his initials pencilled on, some with mine, and some with none, so I told the solicitor I didn't know whose they all were, and he said not to worry, bring them in and he'll sort it out.

Then he just cashed the whole lot in, so I ended up paying inheritance tax on my own PBs.

When I cleared their house out one of the things I was looking for was the old Premium Bonds
didn;t find them so can only assume that they were cashed in at some point

did try the online thing to track down lost ones - but that found nothing either

Sight of this thread reminded me I was going to buy some more, but I found that I have two different holder numbers. One is on a card with my name and address on it, and the other card has me named as the bond holder, along with my fathers name and address. I assume that the latter was taken out when I was too young to hold them myself, so the operator told me to register a web/phone account using the other 'adult' one. When I did that, I got the details of just one £2 bond taken out 20 months before I was born!?!?
