What back up individual stores have is not universal and is based on a given minimum turn over. Which will decide which stores get what it will mostly be lager stores and even then the back is limited. Even then its it's mostly to keep store ticking over it wont be enough to keep it open as normal. Smaller store will almost certain to not have any form of back up and will just close. Same sort of thing happens at the other end of the scale. A given leakage figure has to be met before a store gets security or if they get trolleys fitted with security clamps.

Its the same with most modern cars.

My van told me the garage was working on it last saturday and it emailed me the engine warning came on and it said 'stop driving'. First time it's ever done it. WTF. The van was 10 miles away. They fitted a new part and I suspect it needed coding. Exposed to hacks, yes...

DI2 hacks will be the new whacking your mate's down tube shifter !

Our washer, tumble drier and dishwasher can all be connected to WI-FI. We had not bothered to do this however last week the dishwasher stopped working. When engineer came out he said it was because of an update on system hadn’t been down loaded because we were not connected to WI-FI.
These days apparently if you are connected they can often fix things remotely.

Sounds like ‘the manufacturer can often brake things remotely’ to me :#)

Well, no electricity, no tills will open.
The big shops won't be trading, probably they couldn't even open their doors without power.
Small shops could be trading with cash out of a box, that is if the staff knows how to count without a cash register!

What happened here during Storm Arwen power cut was that the Co-Op had to close, but the local newsagent shop kept going on cash and credit (everyone knows everyone here).

“The Earth shakes, and the Heavens raffle. The beasts of Nature flock together, and the nations of Men flock apart. Volcanoes usher up heat, while elsewhere water becomes ice, and melts.
And then, on other days, it just rains.”
