but balance off with the fact that inserts are more likely to steam up than a prescription lens. Additionally if you have varifocals, because an insert is necessarily a smaller piece of glass, its more compromised, the bigger the lens the better with varifocals (within reason)

Understood. If one can stand the periodic cost of replacing (say) Oakleys then boots can be filled, as it were - but if someone's got a history of prescription change, then worth consideration. Because of the styles of cycling glasses, insert varifocals aren't really very compromised because there is a decent depth of lens.

Just one thought - if your prescription tends to change over time, look for glasses with a prescription insert, not prescription lenses. It'll potentially save a lot of £

You should be able to get new lenses fitted so the cost shouldn't be that significant.

Very spendy but I splashed out last year 2 years ago (!) on a set of top spec cycling sunnies from Extreme Eyewear. Rudy Project frames and varifocal photochromic prescription lenses. Superb! Due to the wraparound and prescription they are pretty thick at the sides. As a result they might look a little odd close up but I'm not bothered about that when I'm out on the bike and they're not for posing at the beach!

I didn't want to go with inserts again and my prescription has been very stable over the last 5 years.

A wise man once said when spending money on quality gear, you feel the pain only once when the money goes out but you appreciate the purchase every time you use it thereafter.

I've just had me yeyes re-tested. and am keen to get something ordered with my new prescription. Knowing they may well last a few years now......

To follow this up - today i've ordered some Oakley Holbrook RX in XXL.

Not wraps per-se as my initial post. But very large in frame size - which for a big guy with a corresponding big face: was my main concern. And they are being glazed (Not inserts etc) direct at Oakley. And from Googling - that also gives me the best chance of no blurry vision at the extremes of the lense you might get with a 'proper' wrap [Depending on prescription]. I also asked the supplier about lense coatings; as it wan't clear and had this reply back - which swayed me pehaps:

"If you were to go ahead and place this order they would come in the sapphire iridium lens with the Oakley Stealth Pro treatment as standard.
This treatment is an anti-reflective coating to help with glare reduction, a hydrophobic layer to repel water, an anti-static finish to help keep dust off the lens, an anti-scratch hard coat and a oleophobic barrier to help protect against body oils/smudges"

I got mine from Specsavers.
The make is Osiris.
They are prescription.
As they are not too fancy i wear them for walking.
I am waiting to have both cataracts done and will need to replace them but they are superb, so restful.

Ive had them for years......maybe they stopped selling them.

They look exactly like a pair of Uvex branded ones I had for commuting that were sold by a local optician. They were sold as sunglasses with 3 interchangeable lenses (dark, clear and yellow I think) or the clear one could be replaced with prescription lenses - photochromatic in my case.
