Presents for the kids suggestions?

Prompted by the fact it's manic Monday for online retailers, Xmas suggestions please.

No electronic games before anyone does suggest it, I want an electronic game free Xmas.

10 and 11 they are. I don't want to break the bank. One thing I probably will get is a 3/4 size table tennis table but I'm up for suggestions on other things. I normally get them books and DVD's, I think studio Ghibli will be raided again this year.

So original answers on a postcard.....err, no: This thread actually.

tickets to the opera. It's about time.

It's an idea. Tickets to something anyway, I don't know if opera is stopping by soon. I think the last one I saw was Electra, staged on a B&W sloping floor.

Well there's the obvious, given we're on a bike forum.....

...but presuming you've been there and got the T-shirt, something along the same lines to keep them exercised would be a skateboard (spot the old skateboarder) and pads/helmet. Keeps 'em out of trouble and well exercised. Plenty of council funded ramps and parks where I am and it's what my kids are getting this year.

Another popular one with kids is Warhammer. Type of war board game but you collect the figures and paint them (and battle with them). Popular at our local senior schools where they have Warhammer clubs. Bit expensive and probably a geek type pastime, but hey I'm a geek!

My nearly 9 yo always wants lego ... no idea when he will outgrow that phase ... its always all over the living room floor. As its the only non-electronic toy that he continues to play with after Christmas he will probably get more of it.

You never outgrow Lego!!

National Geographic do a great range of telescopes, microscopes, metal detectors and nightvision goggles etc. Debenhams sell it all and possibly Argoose!

I would add that the other non-electronic toy my kids want is Lego. 10-11 is probably borderline for it (although I still love it) but it's just not cool to play with building bricks, I suspect they will say. Meccano do some very adult kits these days as well.

I know you said non-electronic, but this kit is the db's :- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meccano-Spy...f=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kids&qid=1258996687&sr=1-1

I built one last year and it is a brilliant, but very expensive, piece of kit.
