Started to think about my next bike, something maybe more road or sportive than the cx, up to around £1,500 (flexible on that), but I'm struggling to find bikes without massive branding and boys colours. Trying not to buy another Genesis but their cream Equilibruim 20 and the Dolan titanium ADX are the only ones which have caught my eye so far. Why are so many bikes overstated and designed for boys? I just want something pretty!

My other decision is about disc brakes, I'm used to them and feel like I'm going to have to give them up for a "proper" road bike.

Why not have a look @ wyndymilla.
A great British company which does custom cycles, you can choose your decal style and paint colour.. They also sponsor a womens cycling team.
Have a bike which is your very definition of pretty.

Wyndy staff are really friendly band helpful, worth calling for a chat and they can send you mock up images of your bike scheme

No need to be sexist about it - I'm male and I think most mainstream modern bikes are vulgar, and more so the more you spend it seems. I was astonished when, on returning to looking in bike shops, I discovered that the branding on the wheels stay on and isn't just a sticker. The frames are often worse.

I was excited to click on that, and then I saw their font and nearly spewed on the screen! Even their classic font option is terrible!

Wasn't meaning a boys vs girls thing, it's just that boys don't often go for "pretty" in the sense I'm meaning.

When you started talking about them being "boy's colours" and "designed for boys" it did rather sound like that.

Big branding and garish colours are ugly To my eyes, but presumably sell better to the people who buy 'fast' bikes. I was looking at the Fuji range a while back. The Tourer is wonderfully understated, but all the 'fast' bikes are vile mobile adverts the same as almost everyone else it seems.

Agreed there's some awful colour and graphic combos about and some slogans too, Cubes "ready to race" sticker just use to make me snigger. The black and grey bike can look nice if set of with some coloured or silver but some just look dull as dish water.

My fave colour scheme of the moment is Ribbles 525.

Lovely! There must be other brands like Genesis though? I'm also against black bikes...
The Eastway steel bikes are pretty too I think

or the alloy http://www.eastwaybikes.com/product/eastway-r3-0-alloy-road-bike/

I also like the Scott Contessa when not black

And of course, there are the Condor steelies in a range of colours

e.g, http://www.condorcycles.com/Condor-Bikes/9451-Condor-Acciaio-Frameset/flypage.tpl.html

Whyte bikes are subtle but mostly grey in road variety

What's your max budget? Builds get expensive quickly

Exactly that. I love the look of my (white) Croix de Fer, but the blingy AlexRims wheel decals look more like they belong on an Escort XR3i than anything. Peeled them off a while ago and have just ordered some ‘Goo Gone’ to remove the last of the residue...

They don't hold you to the font, you can even get decal free bikes.. A fella I know has a two tone bike from them. It has a red bottom fading into a white top half.

Call them for a chat, they like different ideas so may be able to work with you.
