Twenty years ago today. I thought someone would've posted about it on CC. Anyway, there i was in bed, listening to the radio when it came on that she'd been involved in a car crash. I said to Mrs Accy something like "Oh it'll probably be a broken finger,as that lot only die of old age". Then when i woke up later i heard that she'd died. I remember all the radio channels playing solemn funeral type music that day,all very creepy. What are your memories,if you have any?

Day shift, so up for work at 0530. Into the car, half asleep, every radio channel full of some boring news tosh so listened to a cassette. Got to work and the first thing anyone said to me was "Princess Diana is dead."

If I'm honest I didn't care then and don't now.

Woke up hung over at a friend's house. I was still a kid, so I was upset all the cartoons were off.

I think Channel 5 have gave up on the morose coverage and opted for cartoons mid-morning... for hours... which endeared them to me. But I am yet to watch Channel 5 since.

I had just finished a 4 month work contract in the far SW of France. Driving back with 2 colleagues to the UK via Paris. Big mistake as the capital was in shutdown. Missed the ferry and slept in the car park.

I think she has brought two fine children into the world. I like Harry and I like that they are carrying on her work and honour. That aside I have never understood the point of the rest of the oxygen thieves from their family.

Remember that day/night quite well because it was the day my younger brother got married. When we were in the car going home from the reception that night we first heard about the accident on the radio news bulletin.
I said to Mrs Accy something like "Oh it'll probably be a broken finger, as that lot only die of old age".
I don't know the exact words used but something about the way the news was reported made me realise it was serious although at this point she was reported as alive and in hospital. I told my wife there and then that this wasn't good and Diana was either already dead or would be shortly! When we got up in the morning She was indeed dead.
I'm not a royalist or even particularly interested in the royal family either way but some things that happen during your life stick in your mind and the fact that it was my brothers wedding day has helped cement the events into my memory.

We had arrived back to our house in Bedfordshire in the middle if the night with 2 young children after the ferry from Gothenburg. We had been living in Sweden for 18 months. The in-laws would have been arriving and the children were tired and grumpy after a poor nights sleep, so we plonked them on the sofa put the telly on for them and struggled to find any children's progs, just loads of stuff about Diana. In our sleepy haze it took us a while before we actually found out why...
The world went a little mad after that....

I was on my way to Wales, at Gare du Nord in Paris when a journalist came to me and asked me what I thought of Diana's death. It was news to me.

I would have just started 6th form college. I remember standing in the breakfast room at home watching the TV. My mum was very shocked, but I'm sad to say it didn't really affect me much. I really liked her and respected her for the work she did and for the person she was.

I do remember the moment I heard it, but my main memory of that time is the incredible wave of national hysteria that built up day by day over that week, and my sense of being on the outside and of disbelief as the whole country lost the plot around me. The great and good of our village started pressurising shops and businesses to close on the following Saturday - this was one of the things that developed during the week - and I am proud of the fact that as chairman of the village show that day I ignored them and the show went ahead, and what's more had a good turnout.
