Problem with PC sound....

my daughter has a Sony Vaio laptop with a sound problem. When she goes to iTunes she can play music and hear the sound. In anything else (eg YouTube) no sound comes out....

I haven't actually seen it as she is off at uni, but any ideas would be very welcome

Simple question is... has she got youtube muted?

a few more things we may need to know.

What O/S is she using?
does she use external speakers with her laptop?

She has double checked the muting etc on YouTube, and it applies to a variety of sites and applications. It is Vista and she has tried plugging in headphones....

Have you tired downloading the latest Flash player plug-in (which several sites use for outputting video, including [AFAIK] YouTube) - any good?

Another thought -in Vista, the Volume Mixer has settings for individual programs. It could be that some/all of the others are muted while iTunes isn't.

Indeed, best to check this as well.

It has solved itself. The pc ran a "Vaio update" (not sure what as I am not there) and it now works....

May have reinstalled, or upgraded the sound drivers.

Got it working though, so alls well that ends well.
