Prof Cox got me interested in physics again. I now have a much better understanding on quantum mechanics and Einstein's theories of relativity because I became interested enough to read more books. Anyone who can make physics more interesting and understandable is someone we need more of on TV.

PS I also really like The Infinite Monkey Cage on Radio 4.

Much better in Monkey Cage and on other discussion shows IMO than straight presenting, which is a little over earnest.

But then he's appealing to those not so interested in science, I'm not in the target demographic...

I can't stand the man. Were Elvis alive he'd doubtless shoot one more telly just to get rid of this blokes stupid gurning fizzog.

Clever, intelligent, talented, and a face even his mother doubtless wants to punch.

I much prefer that nice Michael Portillo chap. Put him in some brown wingtip brogues, slacks and a neatly pressed shirt, top it off with a straw boater and send him off with a leather satchel over his shoulder and he could do a much more middle class job of explaining the universe.

Good with the physics stuff but a touch anthropocentric when it comes to discussing biology, evolution and such.

Wanna make something of it pal?!
Yeah, as usual, you start it then rely on your mate Hawking to finish it for you.

I like Brian Cox on The Infinite Monkey Cage, along with Robin Ince. I think he's doing a good job. Of course, not everyone will like him.

My dad, who's a grumpy old git, told me he was watching some programme with someone called Brian summat. He wondered if he was a real scientist. I told him he was. Dad said "He seems t know what he's talking about". I recorded tonights programme to watch tomorrow.
I do like his shows but he does a lot of travelling around the world.

Compared to what else is on tv.....
I quite like him, his tv shows are as much about the imagery as the words, it is a little slow. This weeks Human Universe had maybe 20-30 mins of content stretched out to an hour, but when discussing the kinds of topics the shows are about, I don't think taking it slow is a bad thing. If it's the kind of show that inspires a few people because of the pretty images as much as the words I'll take it over another series of made in chelsea or xfactor or the real housewives of wherever....
It's currently the only thing on tv I make a point of watching.

I listen to TIMC podcast as well, he's quite contrary on there, I don't mind it too much but I also don't go along with everything he says, or at least his stance on other things. Some of the discussions and panellists have been amazing.
